Abstract
This thesis set out to research current literature and research regarding various aspects of working with low functioning students with autism. It contains information regarding learning styles for typically functioning students, as well as learning styles and strategies for low functioning students with autism. Examined closely in this thesis are the pieces that go into developing a comprehensive treatment plan for students with autism. It covers three different levels of academic and behavior interventions, as well as the implications they could hold for low functioning students with autism. Communication skills and strategies were also examined and expert practitioner interviews were conducted as well. The thesis concludes with a summary the authors thoughts regarding cognitive learning strategies for low functioning students with autism.
