Abstract
An increasing number of setting one and setting two special education students with disruptive behaviors are being integrated into general education classrooms in the elementary grades. When these students are referred to formal disciplinary processes by general education teachers for minor behavioral issues, they lose classroom time. Collecting data to identify the causes of minor behavioral issues can inform decisions about the distribution of special education students in general education classrooms and the selection of appropriate classroom management strategies by grade level. Identifying and selecting best practices to minimize behavioral issues within settings one and two for special education students can reduce behavioral issues across all students and improve the overall general education classroom environment for both teachers and students.
