Abstract

What would the history of Bethel look like if we centered the stories of its women? In October 2025, history professor Chris Gehrz debuted a digital project (womenofbethel.org) that features essays on topics ranging from athletics and curriculum to parental leave and women in ministry, using the case of Bethel to explore the overlap of religion and higher education in American women's history. Check out the project, which draws on archival and digitized resources from the Bethel History Center and Bethel University Digital Library, and talk to Dr. Gehrz about his project.
