Improving Multiple Choice Exams: Exam Item Creation, Evaluation, and Revision
Files
Description
Writing excellent exam items requires considerable time and effort. Professors are content experts but frequently do not receive training on creating multiple-choice questions. Since students' academic success is often contingent upon their exam performance, faculty should follow best practices for creating, evaluating, and revising exam items. The presentation will include findings from the literature and research conducted for the presenter's dissertation. The objective of the presentation is to provide attendees with practical ways to create, evaluate, and revise exam items to improve item and exam statistics so that exams are strong and fairly constructed.
