Abstract

The feminization of teaching has taken place over multiple centuries, born of a mixture of social-political movements which reveal current complex issues leading to a shortage of young women entering and staying in education careers. Through a review of literature and study on the subjects of educational feminization, teacher attrition, and female workplace concerns and preferences, this thesis assessed the correlations between current teacher shortages and female-based causes and solutions. By assessing these reasons, studying the working habits of women, and evaluating teachers’ reported concerns and reasons for leaving the classroom, this literature review identified important causational effects directly related to women and their satisfaction working in the classroom.
